Sodalitates (Communities of Canons Regular) is a
series of articles from the jubilary album of the
Canonical order published at Stift Vorau, Austria, in
1954 and edited by Pius Fank, C.R. The occasion was
the sixteen hundredth anniversary of the birth of St

232 kb - The Chronicle of Mount St. Agnes is the only
work of Thomas à Kempis of which no English
translation has yet appeared, and even in its
original form the book is not readily accessible to
readers, since the only text is that published by
Peter and John Beller of Antwerp in 1621. The
ordinary collections of the works of à Kempis do not
contain the Chronicle, although there is no doubt as
to the authenticity of the book, which is of
considerable importance to students of the movement
known as "The New Devotion," and to those who are
interested in the Brotherhood of the Common Life. The
last nine pages of the Latin text have been added by
an anonymous writer, and carry on the chronicle from
the year 1471, in which à Kempis died, to 1477, but
since this portion of the book is included in the
first printed edition, and contains a notice of the
author written by a contemporary member of the
community, I have included the addition in the
present translation of the Chronicle.

originally published in 1940 and was quickly
recognised as a scholarly classic and masterpiece of
historical literature. It covers the period from
about 940, when St Dunstan inaugurated the monastic
reform by becoming abbot of Glastonbury, to the early
thirteenth century. Its core is a marvellous
narrative and detailed analysis of monasticism in
twelfth-century England, brilliantly set in the
continental background of all the monastic movements
of the day - with a vivid evocation of Anselm,
Ailred, Henry of Blois and a host of other central
figures. Dom David himself brought this second
edition up to date in 1963. This Google Book contains
a significant part of the book but not all. It does
contain sections about canons regular including the
Norbertines. See index at link.
